I'm looking for a recent Ph.D. graduate as a visiting assistant professor for the Department of Environment and Society in the College of Natural Resources at Utah State University (Logan, UT). This is a 9-month appointment at $45,000 beginning August 10, 2009 to teach 2 courses in the Fall 2009 Semester and 2 courses in the Spring 2010 Semester.
Fall Semester:
1. ENVS 2340 Natural Resources and Society 3 credits
Examines human values, uses, and management of natural settings at the individual, community, and societal levels. Topics include: psychological responses to nature, history of U.S. park and natural resource management, environmental sociology and politics, and nature in non-Western cultures.
2. ENVS 4000 Human Dimensions of Natural Resource Management 3 credits
Focuses on balancing science and social values in ecosystem management and decision-making. Topics include environmental justice, communication and behavior change strategies, landscape perception and attitudes, resource dependent communities, public involvement, and conflict management.
Spring Semester:
1. (Repeat from Fall Semester) ENVS 2340 Natural Resources and Society 3 credits
Examines human values, uses, and management of natural settings at the individual, community, and societal levels. Topics include: psychological responses to nature, history of U.S. park and natural resource management, environmental sociology and politics, and nature in non-Western cultures.
2. ENVS 6900 Graduate Special Topics (graduate seminar in his/her area of academic expertise) 1-6 credits
Offers credit for special assignments, reading, and seminars beyond regularly scheduled courses.
He/she may also share some undergraduate advising. The person should have a PhD emphasizing social science dimensions of natural resources management, including but not limited to recreation resource management. He/she should have successfully defended his/her dissertation by Aug. 10 but can still be working on dissertation revisions.
